Sincere and honest negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia may lead to positive results, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Netherlands Rahman Mustafayev said at the second round of oral arguments of the Azerbaijani side within the hearings on the case of application of ICERD (Azerbaijan v. Armenia) at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Ednews informs.
“I would like to inform the Court of the most recent and most welcome developments in the relations between our two countries. For the first time since Armenia’s 1991 invasion, Azerbaijan has recovered some remaining parts of its occupied sovereign territory without bloodshed.
Last week, Armenia agreed to demarcate part of the land boundary and return to Azerbaijan four villages occupied since 1992. These developments show that genuine negotiations between the parties can result in meaningful and positive outcomes,” he noted.
“Mr. President, Madam Vice President, Members of the Court, I thank you for your kind attention. I will now read out Azerbaijan’s final submissions. The Republic of Azerbaijan requests the Court to dismiss each of the preliminary objections that Armenia sets forth in its final submission of April 24, 2024, on the grounds that none of them is a valid objection to the Court’s jurisdiction or to the admissibility of Azerbaijan’s claims and in the alternative, dismiss each of those preliminary objections on the ground that each raises issues that should be deferred to the hearing of the merits.”
