There were tense scenes at several colleges into Thursday morning as police moved in to quell students' campus protests across the US against the Israel-Hamas war, Ednews informs via Axios.

Hundreds of students have been arrested on college campuses across the US this week, as campus administrators nationwide crack down on pro-Palestinian student demonstrations and encampments on campuses.

Columbia University has been the epicenter for the protests and police arrested dozens more student demonstrators at the campus on Tuesday night.

By Wednesday, the University of California, Los Angeles, emerged as another key flashpoint as law enforcement, some wearing riot gear, entered the campus.

A Stony Brook University spokesperson said 29 people "including students, faculty members and others from outside our campus community" were arrested about 12:15am Thursday "for violating various legal statutes and university policies."

The spokesperson said university administrators made every effort to avert this outcome, but what began as a peaceful demonstration "escalated to include intimidation and harassment of other students and the erection of tents in violation of the University's clearly stated policy."

Multiple demonstrators protesting the war in Gaza were taken into custody at separate protests at the University of New Hampshire and Dartmouth College, New Hampshire State Police confirmed on X late Wednesday.

Police said in a statement early Thursday that 90 people were arrested at Dartmouth College "for multiple offenses including criminal trespass and resisting arrest." Those arrested included both Dartmouth students and non-Dartmouth students, per the statement.

Police entered the University of California, Los Angeles, campus early Wednesday during a pro-Palestinian protest that college officials said left 15 people injured, including one hospitalized, after the demonstration "turned violent."

The NYPD said officers made several arrests at Fordham University on Wednesday evening, one day after they arrested 282 pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University and the City College of New York.

Police in Dallas arrested 17 pro-Palestinian demonstrators at the city's University of Texas campus for criminal trespassing on Wednesday, a college spokesperson confirmed in an email.

The University of Wisconsin at Madison said in an online post that police arrested 34 people on Wednesday at an anti-Gaza war protest that left four officers injured. Professors were among those arrested, according to the Washington Post.

At Tulane University in New Orleans, police including SWAT teams removed a pro-Palestinian encampment and made 14 arrests early Wednesday.

Portland State University urged people in a Wednesday night post to X to avoid an area of campus where pro-Palestinian students have been occupying a library due to police activity, AP reported.

A college spokesperson said they were unaware of any arrests on campus and noted there had been unrelated protests occurring in the same area for May Day.

At Northern Arizona University, police arrested 24 people following protests Tuesday night, including 22 students, AP reports.
