Novak Djokovic vowed to play in the upcoming Miami Open after suffering a shocking defeat in the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells.
Djokovic's return to Indian Wells after a five-year absence from the event ended abruptly after he bowed out in the third round against world No. 123 Luca Nardi. Nardi called the victory a "miracle," as he only got into the main draw due to Tomas Etcheverry withdrawing due to injury. The match lasted two hours and 20 minutes, resulting in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 defeat for the Serbian world number one.
"Miami is there, so let's see," Djokovic said after his defeat. He also praised Nardi, adding that his "own level" caught him by surprise. "He deserved to win. I was more surprised with my level. My level was really, really bad," he said.
