May 1, 2024 - Ednews: In recognition of their dedicated service to regional journalism, the team behind "New Tartar" (Yeni Tərtər) newspaper received accolades from the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF), Ednews reports.
During a ceremony at the newspaper's office, IEPF President Umud Mirzayev and Spanish photographer Gervasio Sánchez Fernandez commended Editor-in-Chief Svetlana Baghirova and the entire staff for their commitment to the development of the regional press.
Mr. Mirzayev praised the newspaper's resilience, highlighting Mr. Baghirova's 50-year tenure as a testament to Azerbaijani journalism. Sánchez Fernandez, drawing from his own experiences in regional journalism, congratulated the newspaper on its 90th anniversary and emphasized its importance as a vital voice in the community.
The collaboration between the "New Tartar" newspaper and the Press Council was also noted, underscoring the crucial support provided by the council in recent years.
Sánchez Fernandez's visit shed light on Azerbaijan's landmine issue, with a forthcoming book documenting the realities of Karabakh and the plight of landmine victims. Partnering with IEPF and ANAMA, his project aims to raise awareness about the ongoing challenges faced by affected communities.
