So far, more than 134,000 hectares of the liberated territory of Azerbaijan have been cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance.
Ednews reports that Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Management Board of the Mine Action Agency of The Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), said this during his speech at the “Team Europe Initiative on Mine Action in Azerbaijan," event held in Baku.
He recalled that Azerbaijan is one of the countries most polluted by landmines in the world today:
"To date, more than 134,000 hectares of territory freed from occupation have been cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance. First of all, demining works were carried out in the areas where the transport and energy infrastructure passes, as well as in the agricultural lands and in the areas where the construction of residential buildings is planned. In total, more than 119,000 mines and unexploded ordnance were detected and safely neutralized.
